What’s the deal with different types of gold in Jewelry?

    Hi Ladies!

Have you ever had a piece of jewelry that you were so excited to wear, and a few days later it had tarnished and no longer had its luxurious gold look?

Today I wanted to talk to you a little bit about types of gold! The most common question we receive is “can I wear this piece of jewelry in the water?” or “will this tarnish if I wear it every day?” The answer completely depends on what the piece is made out of, so I thought I would share some gold education with you all in order to help maintain the beauty of all of your pieces.

    Gold plated Jewelry:

Gold plated jewelry has a thin layer of solid gold that is applied to a base of brass which is estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Gold plating is strong a durable, however it will generally wear off more quickly because of this we recommend always taking gold plated items off to swim, shower, and even be careful around perfume with these gorgeous pieces. Gold plated jewelry tends to be more affordable due to containing smaller amounts of gold, but it is still a gorgeous option if you’re on a budget, just make sure to take proper precaution in order to make it last!

    Vermeil Jewelry:

Vermeil jewelry is made of sterling silver which has been gilded (similar to plating) with gold. Vermeil jewelry is higher quality than gold plated jewelry because the layer of gold is slightly thicker, and the base is sterling silver as opposed to brass. Although it has a thicker layer, in order to keep the gold color of your vermeil jewelry it is still essential to take off when you’re in water, because it can tarnish

    Gold-filled Jewelry:

Gold-filled jewelry is jewelry composed of a solid layer of gold. Most high-quality gold-filled pieces have the same appearance as high carat gold. The core metal is brass and gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight, to get specific. Most jewelry that is gold-filled made this way can last 10 to 30 years though the layer of gold will eventually wear off. Gold-filled jewelry is pricier than gold plated or vermeil jewelry, however it can be worn in the shower as well as most conditions and you don’t have to worry about it tarnishing, at least not for a long time!

    Solid gold Jewelry:

Solid gold jewelry’s price comes from its value in the amount of solid gold you are getting in these pieces. Often gold is made into an alloy by mixing it with other metals in order to create a stronger metal than pure gold. Solid gold jewelry is the highest in price and purity.

I hope this helped everyone, and now you can shop at ease knowing that you have the proper education on how to keep your jewelry beautiful and prevent the nasty green tarnish color.

  • What Do You Need For Fall 2020?

What Do You Need For Fall 2020?

Hey Ladies! Although it's been 80 degrees lately in Southern California, I have been doing the best I can to make it feel like Fall. So today I am going to share with you some necessities you absolutely must have this season to get you in the spirit!

    1. Festive Candle!

Candles are the easiest way to set the mood in your house, personally I have been burning the Heritage Pumpkin scent from target all of October, it's perfect smell to take you from carving pumpkins to carving the Turkey.

    2. Cozy Sweat Set!

Although we are all hoping to get out of our houses sometime soon and step back into society, a bonus of being stuck in the house is how cozy we can be. I have been living in Sweat sets pretty much all of quarantine, and I don't see that stopping anytime soon considering it'll keep me nice and cozy as the weather starts cooling down and the leaves start changing. I love these sweatshirts and sweatpants from Missguided, super cute and inexpensive. Another bonus, you don't have to worry about unbuttoning your pants at the dinner table on Thanksgiving!

    3. Jewelry to Dress up your Loungewear!

To make you feel a little more dressed up, I find it always helps to stack some jewelry or put on some rings to make you look more put together. Topaz jewelry is my FAV at the moment, not only is it the perfect Fall color but it's also November's birth stone which is perfect! I am dying over this ring from our Fall collection! You can also dress up your casual look by adding chunky necklaces! Im seriously obsessed with the new Phoenix necklace, its gorgeous in itself but you can also put perfume inside, to freshen up throughout the day!

Checkout my must haves for Fall and let me know on Instagram (@erinfaderjewelry) what your Fall must haves are!

  • Spring 2020 Jewelry Trends

    Spring 2020 Jewelry Trends
Erin Fader Jewelry loves to stay on top of all the jewelry trends for 2020. Lots of beautiful runway shows have happened and that means new spring jewelry trends are here. Here are the 7 jewelry trends you'll be seeing everywhere come Spring 2020.

    Colorful Jewelry

We will be seeing lots of colorful jewelry. Try incorporating color into your bling this spring. Multiple tones within each piece will be all the rage. Pair with colorful eyes or bold lips. Big colorful necklaces and earrings? Yes, please.

    Single Earring

The solo earring is trending this Spring 2020. Think a statement drop or fringe earring, something that stands out. Hair up or down, but a sharp top or jacket will be a must. This trend is an opportunity to select something bold, long, or artistic.

    Oversized Chains

Big chunky necklaces. We like sparkly or layered ones. Perfect to wear day and night, very convertible. We personally love gold ones, but any will do! The chunkier the better!

    Pearls

Yes, pearls are still in spring. They are classic and still going strong. Try earrings or necklaces with natural shaped pearls. We love dainty gold jewelry that incorporates the pearls. Long drop earrings are some of our favorites.

    Big Hoops

Hoop earrings are a classic and have been trending for quite some time. We love thick, gold, or dainty pairs. Something new to try this season is a double hoop. Did they ever really go out of style? We think not.

    Shoe Jewelry

Yes, you heard right. Add an ankle chain to your heels or keep an eye out with shoes decorated with bling already. Shoe bling is coming in strong and we’re here for it. Especially in ankle boots, love!

    Layering

Layering what you already have and adding some new pieces will be an easy way to stay on-trend. We love mixing chains along with coin, chokers, or long pendant necklaces.
